About Us

Our lab is focused on intracranial electrophysiology (iEEG)

We record electrical activity from humans with electrodes placed in their brains for epilepsy monitoring. We work with local field potentials. iEEG allows for single-trial and spatiotemporal precision in humans.

We have also begun to explore single unit recordings from deep brain regions such as the hippocampus, amygdala, orbitofrontal cortex, and anterior cingulate. We collect single neuron activity in these regions using a hybrid microelectrode.

It is important to note that the research subjects are patients with epilepsy whose clinicians and surgeons have indicated may need to have their epilepsy localized. Our lab runs tasks on patients who have consented to participate in the research, after the surgical and clinical team have planned the epilepsy monitoring procedure for their diagnosis and treatment process. Electrode placement is determined by the patients’ care team, with no influence from researchers.
